Tasmania has reinforced its position as Australia’s standout summer destination, with Hobart recording the highest occupancy of any capital city in the country during January.
New Hospitality Tasmania data shows Hobart reached 88.4 per cent occupancy for the month, outperforming every interstate capital during the busiest holiday period of the year, as visitor demand for the state remained exceptionally strong.
Statewide, occupancy reached 85.03 per cent, closely tracking the previous two years and signalling that visitor demand has remained resilient despite broader economic pressures. More notably, the average room rate climbed to $294.77 (an increase of nearly $27 year-on-year), while yield rose by approximately $21 to $250.64.
“To see Hobart leading every capital city in the country during the peak holiday period is an outstanding result. It confirms what many operators experienced firsthand, that Tasmania was front of mind for travellers this summer,” Hospitality Tasmania chief executive Steve Old said.
