Tasmania’s accommodation sector recorded a typical April autumn easing, with new figures showing statewide occupancy fell 13.12 per cent from March and 3.13 per cent compared to April last year.
The latest Hospitality Tasmania Occupancy Report showed statewide occupancy sat at 74.3 per cent for April, while annual occupancy across the past 12 months remained up 1.33 per cent.
The north and north west regions both held steady compared to 12 months ago, with occupancy in the north rising slightly to 82.91 per cent and the north west increasing to 65.89 per cent. However, the south recorded the sharpest decline, falling 5.41 per cent year-on-year.
Hospitality Tasmania CEO Steve Old said the timing of Easter and school holidays likely played a significant role in the softer April result.
“Last year, Easter and the Tasmanian school holidays aligned strongly through the middle of April, helping maintain visitation momentum across the month,” Mr Old said.
